Ambati Rayudu, a former cricketer from India, remains hopeful about MS Dhoni’s continuation in the IPL, suggesting that the cricketing maestro’s journey might not have reached its conclusion just yet. Rayudu advocates for maintaining the debated “impact player” rule, believing it could offer Dhoni avenues to extend his remarkable career in top-tier cricket.
In a much-anticipated showdown in Bengaluru, Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings faced a 27-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, signaling the end of their campaign in this season of the Indian Premier League. Despite requiring 17 runs in the final over to secure a playoff berth, RCB’s Yash Dayal maintained his composure, thwarting CSK’s aspirations.
Sharing his insights on Star Sports Cricket Live, Rayudu cast doubt on Dhoni’s retirement, remarking, “I don’t believe this is his farewell game. I simply cannot envision him concluding his journey on this note.” While RCB’s players celebrated exuberantly, Dhoni, in his characteristic calm demeanor, exchanged pleasantries with the opposition’s reserves before quietly retiring to the dressing room.
Observing Dhoni’s demeanor throughout the match, Rayudu detected a hint of frustration, an uncommon sight for the usually composed veteran. Having played under Dhoni’s leadership at CSK previously, Rayudu stressed the significance of the “impact player” role and urged the BCCI to uphold it, asserting, “The BCCI must not discard the impact player rule, as we still desire to witness MS Dhoni in action.”
Despite CSK’s dismay, RCB demonstrated a remarkable resurgence with their sixth consecutive victory, propelling them from the bottom of the table to the playoffs. Reflecting on Dhoni’s performance, former Australian opener Matthew Hayden lauded his leadership and cricketing acumen, emphasizing his enduring capacity to influence matches.
Dhoni’s innings of 25 runs from 13 balls, including three boundaries and a towering six, showcased his ability to deliver pivotal performances, reaffirming his stature as a stalwart of the sport.
