Ride-hailing app Uber has been granted an aggregator license by the Delhi Transport Department, allowing it to operate buses in the national capital under the Delhi Premium Bus Scheme, the company announced in a statement.

Delhi is the first state to issue a license for bus operations, and Uber is the first aggregator to receive this license under the Delhi Premium Bus scheme, the statement noted.

“Following a successful pilot program, where we saw significant demand for buses, we are excited to officially bring the convenience of Uber rides to buses in Delhi,” said Amit Deshpande, head of Uber Shuttle India. Customers will be able to pre-book seats on their chosen routes by selecting the ‘Uber Shuttle’ option on the Uber app.
